Consideration for Reasonable Accommodations
In order to receive consideration for reasonable accommodations as guaranteed under the ADA Amendments Act (2008) and Federal Rehabilitation Act, a student must have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. See more information on our Disability Laws page.
"Substantially limiting" refers to an impairment that prevents an individual from performing a major life activity or significantly restricts the condition, manner, or duration under which the average person in the general population can perform the same major life activity. Documentation of a student's disability, therefore, should provide evidence of a substantial limitation to one or more major life activities and the functional limitations specifically related to the academic requirements, programs and climate at CSM. Students should review Documentation Guidelines.
Please be aware that the Colorado School of Mines reserves the right to determine if a condition or diagnosis rises to the level of a disability under the ADAAA and what constitutes reasonable accommodations. The most comprehensive documentation will include a description of both current and past medications, auxiliary aids, assistive devices, support services, and accommodations, including their effectiveness in ameliorating functional impacts of the disability.
