The Colorado School of Mines is committed to equal educational opportunities for students with disabilities in compliance with the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Information about these laws can be found here. Qualified students who request consideration for reasonable accommodations must submit current documentation (refer to guidelines link below for specific disability). Please note: a school plan such as an IEP or a 504 Plan is insufficient in and of itself but can be included as part of a more comprehensive evaluative report.
Disability documentation must both establish a disability and provide adequate information about its functional impact so that effective accommodations can be identified. In the context of postsecondary education, documentation should provide the Colorado School of Mines with a basic understanding of the student's disability and the current impact, including expected interaction on the CSM structure of courses, laboratories, field courses, testing methods, and program requirements.
A diagnosis of a disorder/impairment alone does not automatically qualify an individual for an accommodation under the ADAAA. Please be aware that the Colorado School of Mines reserves the right to determine if submitted documentation of a condition or diagnosis substantiates a disability under the ADAAA and constitutes reasonable accommodations. The following guidelines are provided to ensure that documentation verifies eligibility, specifically identifies functional limitations, and supports requests for accommodations.
Documentation should be sent to: Disability Services, Student Development and Academic Services, 1600 Maple Street, Suite 8, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO 80401.
Please allow a minimum of two weeks for a review of your request and documentation.
